New Year’s Beauty Round-Up

It’s time again for another Beauty Round-up, where we take some of the best from the web’s beauty blogs and beyond and put them all in one place. The Body Shop is always interested to see what other beauty blogs are discovering. A round-up for the new year is especially fun to write, because bloggers start concocting creative ideas for how to look and feel fabulous in celebration of a brand new start.

  • Clean Your Clutch – We all have a habit of stashing things in our purses and bags and then forgetting what we’ve hidden in there. Bionic Beauty issues a challenge to all bag carriers: empty your stash and report what you find. The New Year is the perfect time to pare down on what you’ve accumulated. Only a few key items are required: keys, phone, wallet, lipstick for reapplication, and gum, so you don’t need to haul your whole make up collection with you!
  • Hippie Hairstyles – Just because the days of running through fields without your shoes on are months away, doesn’t mean you can’t pay homage to them by creating a sexy, earthy hairstyle. The Makeup Divas have compiled a how-to for hippie hair, a fresh alternative to very “done” looking styles. Clip a rhinestone barrette in your hair and you’ve got a dressed-up but casual look that will work for welcoming in an auspicious 2009.
  • A Red Refresher – Nothing says glamorous quite like a perfect pair of ruby red lips. If you’ve been too timid to try them out in the past, then make it a New Year’s resolution to give them a test run. Beauty Banter has written up a refresher course on the best way to make red lips work for you, from proper exfoliation to choosing the right shade.
  • Lash Out Loud – People often think of false lashes as tacky and fake looking. While some styles are obviously created for dramatic effect (check out the fabulous lace-patterned lashes), when properly applied, false lashes can give you a naturally lush look with minimal fuss. Read through the post over at Beyond Beauty Basics for step-by-step instructions on how to apply false eyelashes, and after a couple of practice tries, you’ll be ready for your eye-opening new look.
  • Chic Chignon – If you’re looking for a simple and classic hairstyle to wear out or to the office, a chignon is a winning choice every time. This loose, off-center knot pictured on Lipstick, Powder N Paint is the perfect compromise between super formal and overly casual. Smooth it back sophisticatedly for a client meeting, or wear it loosely gathered for a softer, more romantic look.
