The Five W’s of How to Find the Perfect Gift
It’s that time of year again. When cities are decked in lights, stores roll out the sales, and the pressure of gift shopping can become more than a little overwhelming. In addition to the joy, fun, and celebratory nature of the holidays, there is also the desire to choose that perfect gift for all your loved ones. To help give you some ideas to get your creative gift-giving juices flowing, we’ve created the Five Essential W’s of How to Find the Perfect Gift. 
- Who –Who is the lucky recipient of the gift? Your relationship to the person can help you decide how personal the gift should be. If you’re shopping for your sister, chances are you’ll be better able to find something to her taste than, say, if you’re shopping for your yoga instructor or a child’s teacher.
- What - What are their likes and dislikes? Their interests and hobbies? This kind of knowledge can lead you to a good gift. With people you don’t know that well, it’s perfectly acceptable to give gift cards to make sure they get something they enjoy. Everyone likes delicious things to eat, drink, or smooth onto their skin. That’s as specific as you need to get with a gift card!
- Where - Where do they live? Location can tell you about their lifestyle, which can help spark some inventive ideas. A hand-knitted throw blanket is a lovely gift, unless the recipient lives in Hawaii!
- When – When should you shop? The earlier you begin planning, the better. Shopping at the last minute without a plan often leads to buying the first thing you see and spending more than you wanted to just to cross that person off your list. If you’re savvy, you can also take advantage of special last minute sales and free shipping, which will help you keep your costs down.
- How Much – How much should you spend? You’ll want to a lot more for some people on your list than others, and a token gift is all that’s necessary in many cases. . The important thing, especially in this economy, is to set a budget and stick to it. A great, thoughtful gift doesn’t have to be expensive or big.
Once you’ve spent a few minutes reviewing your list and thinking about the essential W’s of a perfect gift, your holiday shopping will seem more like a treat than a trial..
