The Best & Worst of 2008
2008 was an especially experimental year in the world of fashion and beauty. The theme of change that permeated the country gave fashion and beauty-makers the guts to take some fabulous risks. Throughout 2008, we’ve kept you up-to-date by culling some of the most cutting-edge trends from blogs around the web with our Beauty Round-ups. Now it’s time for a round-up of the best and worst trends in hair, make up, and fashion to give 2008 a proper send-off, and prepare our beauty palates for what’s being served up for 2009.
Hair
- Chopped bangs, bad fringe, and visible hair extensions, oh my. Hair on the Brain posts their top 5 worst hair looks in 2008, complete with photos as evidence to back up their choices. I have to agree that I can’t wait for some of these looks to be retired to the history books.
- Fortunately, celebrities and their hair stylists had plenty of brilliant hair ideas for us to copy this year, and the blog over at Hair Boutique.com has a list of some of the best hair trends in 2008. From Victoria Beckham’s adorable pixie cut, to Anne Hathaway’s soft waves, to bold red locks, there were some definite wins amongst the A-List tresses.
Make Up
- The Cosmogirl blog has created their very own round-up of some of the best and worst looks. My favorites are always classic pin-up looks with red lips (this is a winner on any face!), and bold colors like green and purple that dramatically define eyes.
- The worst looks even worse when juxtaposed with the best! And that’s exactly what they’ve done over at Fafarazzi: set photos of the best make up looks next to the worst. Fake, spidery lashes next to lush real ones, and a horribly applied example of what happens when you aren’t careful with fire engine red lipstick. Yikes.
Fashion
- We’ve often told you about our love for all things eco-friendly and socially conscious, so we were thrilled to discover this “Best Of” list. White Apricot has selected some of their favorite looks from eco-friendly designers they discovered in 2008. Designers that work with cutting-edge fabrics made from materials like hemp and recycled plastic bottles to create gorgeous pieces. It’s brilliant fashion with a heart.
- From towering gladiator sandals to scarves all year round, Lemondrop.com is not shy about telling it like it is…or like it shouldn’t be. They wax hilarious on trends for 2008 that should definitely die, like fanny packs. Enough said.
Whether you loved them or hated them, 2008 was a year of distinct trends and styles. I’m curious to know what your best and worst list consists of, so feel free to leave a comment letting me know what you loved, and what you’re willing to let go from ’08.
