High Five to Everyone Who’s Supported the Campaign
As the festive season gets underway and we all are thinking of everything we have to be grateful for, we’d like to say a big thank you to all our customers who gave a helping hand to support our Stop Sex Trafficking of Children & Young People campaign in 2009. By buying our Soft Hands Kind Heart Hand Cream and eco-chic Bags for Life, you have helped raise an incredible $289,914 in just four months to help support children who are victims of or at risk of sex trafficking.
As we write, our campaign partners are gearing up to use the funds you’ve raised to get their much-needed programs underway across North America and across the world.
ECPAT USA is planning to provide urgently needed health care for sexually exploited children in the U.S. by funding specialist groups who can provide expert support. The program will train staff at health clinics and hospitals about the special health and emotional needs of victims.
Beyond Borders (ECPAT in Canada) plans to support advocacy programs including Supreme Court challenges and judicial reform initiatives to help prevent child sex trafficking. Just this week, Beyond Borders ensured the prosecution of a 37 year old man who had pursued a 12 year old child with sexual intent on the Internet.
The Somaly Mam Foundation is planning to use the funds to support the rescue of young victims of sex trafficking, and provide survivors with essentials such as food, shelter, and medical and psychological care. The sale of just one Bag for Life can feed a survivor in a shelter in Cambodia, Laos or Thailand for one day. Small actions really can make a big difference!
