Get a Spa Facial at Home

Ok, spa fiends, admit it. We all love a good facial, but these days glowing skin may be taking a back seat to high prices at the pump and the credit crunch. So what’s a girl to do? Well, this one’s an easy one: instead of $75 (or more) up for a single visit to your favorite day spa, why not re-create the spa experience at home?

Here’s how to get a spa facial at home:

1) Cleanse - use your favorite cleanser to remove dirt, oil, make-up and pollution. Dry skin types will prefer a creamy cleanser, while oilier types will revel in a foamy one.

2)  Steam - lean over a bowl of steaming hot water to loosen clogged pores. Extra credit: add a few drops of essential oil to the hot water for added benefits!

3) Exfoliate gently - and we mean gently! Use a scrub or an exfoliating accessory (I love our Rounded Handle Facial Brush) to remove the dead skin that makes you look dull.

4) Deep Cleanse and remove blackheads - If you haven’t yet, try our Warming Mineral Mask. It heats up on your skin so it only takes five minutes, an  with no added color and no added fragrance, it works for even sensitive skin.

5) Massage in a serum - massaging facial muscles helps to relax you and stimulate your skin. Try it, you won’t believe how tight your muscles are from clenching your teeth at work all day!

6) Moisturize - every facial ends with a great moisturizer. For day, make sure your features an SPF of 15 or higher.
Extra Credit: If you love microdermabrasion for the way it leaves your skin glowing, but hate the $100 to $150 price tag, try Vitamin C Micro Refiner! The tiny exfoliating particles leave you with super soft, glowing skin, and you can’t beat the $25 price!

  3. Haha, this is great advice, but you guys crack me up with your shameless self-promotion. :-) I do have a question on blackheads–if you have those permanent blackheads in your nose and cheeks, how do you get rid of those? Do you have to get an extraction?

  4. Hi Abi, Extraction is probably your best bet to clear out those permanent blackheads. Unfortunately if you have enlarged pores they may return. For best results keep your pores as clean as possible between extractions. You can achieve this with a deep cleansing mask 1 - 3 times a week and regular exfoliation. Hope this helps!
