Romantic Date Ideas

With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, plenty of people are going to be wracking their brains for romantic and unique ideas for making the day special. Rather than giving in to the traditional idea of a romantic date on Valentine’s Day, why not get creative and put a globally conscious spin on it?

We’ve put together a few ideas below to help you get started, but if you have any additional suggestions, we’d love to hear them in the comments below.

  • A Night In – In the cold of the wintertime, nothing is better than snuggling up for a Valentine’s night in. Set the mood with these suggestions from RiverWired for eco friendly décor to make the night special. Our favorites are the raspberry LED lights, which will cast a romantic red glow. Build a fire, offer a relaxing aromatherapy massage, and why not grab a bottle of fair-trade wine to top it off and uncork a night of conscientious romance?
  • Enjoy The Great Outdoors – Wherever you live, chances are likely that there’s a national park or gorgeous hiking path not very far away. Bundle up and hit the trails for a quiet hike for two to appreciate the beauty of Mother Nature. While you’re at it, bring a bag along with you in case there’s any litter along the way. That way you can do an environmental good deed while you spend quality time with your sweetie. If it’s too cold to venture out-of-doors, recreate the sensation by burning some home fragrance oils that mimic the scent of springtime.
  • Give It Away – Although it may sound unconventional, The Green Life suggests a trip to Goodwill for a date. If you have a cluttered closet with plenty of salvageable clothes and useful home items, why not make a project of cleaning them out together and taking them to a thrift store? You’ll get the chance to talk about the memories and stories of experiences associated with each item, getting to know one another better. And someone else will benefit from your newly cleaned closet.
  • Local Foods Picnic – There are a group of people who refer to themselves as “locavores,” eating mostly locally grown and manufactured foods. Local foods mean less fuel wasted on transportation of goods and supporting the local economy, so Planet Green suggests turning yourselves into locavores for a Valentine’s date picnic. Find a secluded spot on a sunny afternoon, and stretch out a blanket for a sampling of the best delicacies your community has to offer. Visit the local food co-op for information and insight on local farmers and the goods they grow and produce.
