Quest for Calm

Ever have trouble finding that Calm Place? You are not alone. No matter how hard I try, there are days when I just can’t make it to the Zen den. Stress is a normal part of life, but too much stress can wreak havoc on your body and immune system. Chronic stress contributes to headaches, high blood pressure, heart problems, diabetes, skin conditions, asthma, arthritis, depression and anxiety. And the list goes on.

So kick back and relax.

Tips for adding a little Zen to your day:

  • Listen to Lily Tomlin - “For fast-acting relief try slowing down.”
  • Say no - It’s simple but effective. Learn to say “no” without feeling guilty and don’t over-schedule yourself.
  • Enjoy rush hour – I know it sounds absurd, but you can try car-pooling or using public transportation to commute to work. Relax and use the time to catch up on your reading.
  • Exercise - Try walking, yoga, Pilates or swimming to reduce stress and release “good mood” endorphins in the brain.
  • Talk - Getting worries off your chest really does help. If necessary speak to a professional.
  • Just Breathe - Taking time to focus and slow your breathing rate is a tried and true way to get your stress level in check.

If you have practices that make you feel perfectly at peace, share them with us. We’d love to hear them.

All together now…..Om………….

  1. Whenever I have felt overwhelmed by stress, anxiety. I take a step back and take a few deep breathing excersises. Yoga and jogging help the tension to stretch and walk it out. Conversation with a loved one, a mate, partner or counselor help talk it out. A wonderful full-body massage (from scalp to toe) is also very healing. Even reflexology. Then your back to your coordinated, stimulated, normal, joyful self again. OH HAPPY DAY!!!
