The Power of Saying Yes
We live in a “No” culture. Think about it: our every day is filled with things that you shouldn’t do, from the second you get up in the morning. No to doughnuts for breakfast, no to sleeping in, no to that extra hour hanging out with your friends when you have to work in the morning. Sometimes we get so caught up in telling ourselves no, that the most liberating thing we can possibly do is to say yes.
Saying yes can be an empowering way to reclaim your own health, happiness, and self-determination. Rather than focusing on everything you are supposed to say no to, try taking a positive stance by saying yes.
- Say Yes To Indulging – During this difficult economic downturn, people are getting into the habit of denying themselves. Tightening the belt means sacrificing all of those little luxuries that you used to enjoy. But being frugal doesn’t mean you have to be the queen of no. Once in awhile, say yes to an indulgence you have been denying yourself. You don’t have to go overboard with it, so instead of buying a brand new pair of designer shoes, find an identical knock-off online and give yourself the satisfaction without taking the hit to your bank account.
- Say Yes To Brand New – So maybe you’ve gotten into a little bit of a rut; doing the same things with the same people all of the time. Getting coffee from the same café and running the same lake trail. When was the last time you went outside of your comfort zone to say yes to an absolutely spontaneous request? Variety is the spice of life, after all. Next time someone mentions midnight disco bowling, trying saying yes. I’m betting you’ll have a completely unanticipated good time. If you need a little inspiration, try reading the hilarious memoir The Year of Yes, about a woman who said yes to every guy that asked her out for a year. As you can imagine, hilarity ensues.
- Say Yes to Health & Safety - Nothing is more empowering than taking care of yourself. When you do the work to make yourself look and feel good, others will notice your self-respect and respect you in kind. Having the respect to always Say Yes To Safe Sex is an excellent place to start, because by insisting on protected sex each and every time, you are drastically reducing your risk of becoming infected with an STD or STI. Saying yes to protection is taking control of your choices and their consequences.
