The humble aloe vera plant has a surprising benefit. Who would have thought it could achieve so much in Guatemala?
The organic aloe vera in our Aloe skincare range comes from El Progreso in central Guatemala. Aloe is proving to be a valuable cash crop for the Guastatoya Farmers, the cooperative that supplies our organic aloe. Income generated from trading with us is used by Guastatoya for its own community fund, which it spends on projects that help to benefit everyone in the community.
Recent projects have included installing a water pump to irrigate the farmland of 25 families in El Jicaro; providing equipment to 63 families for purifying their domestic water; setting up vegetable plots so farmers can grow their own vegetables; and providing 188 families with better cooking stoves than the ones they were using.
