Men’s Grooming Tips: Taking Care of your Hands and Feet

It used to be that the domain of men’s grooming was reserved for “metrosexual” guys; the ones paying extra attention to their hair care routine and the state of their shirt cuffs. These days, men’s skincare and grooming isn’t just for the fussy pretty boys. Men have recognized that taking care of themselves means they present a better looking, healthier self to the world. After all, who doesn’t appreciate clear, fresh-looking skin?

At The Body Shop, we have always believed in the importance of men’s skincare and grooming, so here are a few  of our favorite tips on taking care  of the most used and abused body parts: your hands and feet.

  • Nail Care – First of all, apparently there are these fabulous little gadgets that allow you to trim your nails without the aid of your teeth. Who knew? Regularly trimming your nails with clippers can be not only beneficial to making your fingers and toes look nice, but aid in overall hygiene as well. There is a time and place for getting dirt or grease under your nails, just don’t let it stay there or you’ll carry loads of germs and grime with you to everything you touch. Trimming and filing your nails is a great place to start, but don’t be afraid of getting a manicure or pedicure. Manis and Pedis can help with unsightly cuticles and hangnails. Check out this article on Nail Care Tips about  How to do a Manicure if you think going to a nail salon is too girly.
  • Rough Spots – If your hands are rough and dry, it can be a sign of manliness and hard work, but when you are out for a romantic evening, the last thing your lady wants is to hold a pound of sandpaper. Keeping your hands free of dryness and rough spots can be tough, but keeping them moisturized is a good place to start. One of my favorite ways to get rid of dry skin is by using Hemp Hand Protector. It smells great and keeps your mitts feeling smooth and soft.  For your feet, try the Peppermint Cooling Foot Rescue Treatment or the Hemp Foot Protector.
  • Kick the Odor - Foot odor is caused by bacteria, and that bacteria can live in all the cracks and creases in your toes. Be sure to wash them with an antibacterial soap and scrub in between your toes. Skatelog.com has some other tips on foot odor prevention, including changing your socks, and soaking your feet in black tea and cool water.  For other foot odor folk remedies, check out this article on Health911.com.

We use our hands and feet on a daily basis, and our paws are constantly suffering through the elements. Exposing  them  to so much  abuse means that we have to treat them with a little respect. Taking care of your hands and feet should be a part of your daily routine, too, if not for yourself, then for anyone else who might encounter them. How are you taking care of your extremities?
