Makeup Tips from Chase Aston: Beautiful Eyes

It’s time again for The Body Shop to tap our resident makeup expert Chase Aston for some great tips on how to look your best. Today, Chase tackles your toughest eye beauty concerns and gives his insider expertise.

For sensitive eyes, what kind of make up is better: powder, fluid, or something else?

For dry, sensitive and mature eyelids, I would suggest using a cream based eye shadow as well as providing colour onto the eyelids. This soothes and moisturizes the skin around the delicate eye area. I always use The Body Shop Cream Eye Colours. Some liquid eye shadows can occasionally be drying, and irritate the sensitive eye area, as con some powder shadow formulations. I always use The Body Shop Nature’s Minerals Eye-Colours on people with sensitive eyes, as they are 100% natural mineral, and they contain no fragrance or preservatives at all. Finally, people with sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers should avoid wearing any eye shadows that contain loose or large glitter particles, as the glitter can scratch the lens and also irritate eyes.

How do you get a perfect look in your brows?

First, brush the hair upward, then use small pointed nail scissors to trim any that curl over the brow line. Using a brow comb, brush brows upward and across. Then take a Brow Pencil or The Body Shop Brow & Liner Kit, and using short feathery strokes, never a solid line or block of colour, lightly fill in gaps, define the arch of the brow, and extend brows to the outer corner of the eye. Finally, comb through with The Body Shop Brow & Lash Gel in Clear to set the brows.

Can you explain the steps to eliminate dark circles under your eyes? How can I avoid that “tired” look when I haven’t had sleep enough?

To banish fine lines and dark circles, you can use either an illuminating liquid concealer, cream concealer, or for heavier coverage, a concealer pencil.

After you have applied your foundation, but before you set with a powder, stand near a natural light and use a concealer brush with your concealer— between a half to one shade lighter than your foundation. For fine lines and minor dark circles, apply The Body Shop Lightening Touch, this light illuminating concealer reflects the light, illuminating and erasing dark circles. For more coverage, I always use The Body Shop Flawless Skin Protecting Concealer, once you have applied 3 dots of concealer under eyes, starting from the inner corner of the eye, center and outer corner, gently pat (don’t rub) over dark circles and fine lines, and for stubborn spots and acne scarring, brush concealer over problem area. For more full coverage and deep dark circles, I always use The Body Shop Concealer Stick. This heavier concealer provides excellent coverage, for even the most stubborn dark circles. After you have applied your concealer and using a powder puff, gently press on loose or pressed powder to set.
