Makeup Hygiene
Everyone is aware of how sensitive the skin on your face can be. It’s very delicate, and because of that can be more susceptible to outbreaks caused by rogue bacteria. That’s the perfect reason to be extra vigilant about makeup hygiene: making sure all of your products and tools are clean and pristine. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when your clear skin is at stake.
- Sharpen your eyeliner each time – Not only does it give you a precise point to work with for a better line, but using a sharpener also gets rid of any bacterial residue as well. This is a good habit to get into, because eyes can become infected quite easily and no one wants to accessorize with Pink Eye.
- Lay makeup brushes on a paper towel – Though it’s tempting to just put your makeup brushes and applicators down on your sink while you apply your makeup, there’s no telling what kind of bacteria that bathroom surface has collected. As a simple alternative, lay a clean paper towel on your sink, and place the brushes on top of it. Our makeup brushes stand up on their base, which keeps the bristles and your skin in top condition.
- Don’t keep product for too long – Though it’s difficult to part with a favorite product once you’ve found it, pay attention to how long you keep your products before you throw them out. Liquids and creams have the shortest life expectancy, around 6-9 months, and you should never use products that have separated or that smell strange.
- Don’t share! – Now that you’ve got that incredible eye color, of course someone is going to want to borrow it. But each person has different bacteria on their faces, and using someone else’s makeup could be a recipe for breakouts, and even worse, infection. Stick to your own stash.
