Makeup Revolution: Wearable trends and glowing skin for fall

Until this year, it was almost too predictable. “The” look for fall: matte skin, matte red lips…and then Fashion Week happened, and everything changed – for the better! This Fall is nothing short of a makeup revolution, and I can’t wait to wear the look of the season: classic, fresh and subtle.

Here are my favorites and tips for how to get these Fall 2008 makeup trends:

Glowing skin: Rejoice! Gone are the days of dull, matte autumn skin! Skin this fall is fresh and fabulous, with frisky pink cheeks and an ethereal finish, a subtle glow that looks and feels natural and crisp.

Get it:

  • If your skin is dry: Use a moisturizing Foundation and top off with a pretty pink blush with a touch of shimmer.
  • If your skin is oily: Use a mattifier to control excess oil and keep you skin glowing without caking on the powder.

Black liquid liner: No overdone rock and roll retro here, just a subtle and sophisticated take on a classic, must-have beauty item. Think Audrey Hepburn, not Amy Winehouse.

Get it:

  • Focus on the upper lash line, keep the line skinny and allow it to emphasize your lashes. Don’t worry about drawing a perfect line – instead, dot the liner along your upper lash line and blend with a cotton swab or a brush into a soft line.

Jewel toned eyes: At the fall shows, it was one of three choices for autumn eyes, so pick your poison: gold, sapphire blue or emerald.

Get it:

  • Emerald and Sapphire: If bold colors are a bit much for you, translate the trend into something you feel comfortable wearing. Try a deep green or navy eye liner, and choose earthy olive or blue grey shadow instead of a bold hue. Make it easy on yourself: try our Deadly Desire collection. Remember to balance a bold, colorful eye with a neutral lip to avoid looking like a clown.
  • Gold: Sophisticated and sexy but relaxed and approachable, gold is the metallic of the season. Luckily for us, it is also the easiest to wear! From an all-out gold to a subtle highlight, you can’t go wrong. Try layering a gold shadow (like our Gold Eye Shimmer) over your favorite everyday shadow for a fresh new take and a subtle glow.
