Hair Color Trends For 2009

I always feel like the beginning of a new year is a good opportunity for a fresh start on all fronts. Cleaning out your apartment, purging bad habits, and revamping your look are all great ways to feel renewed and energized about 2009. Since holiday expenses can tend to wipe out our wallets, one of the less-expensive ways we’ve come up with to freshen up your look is by changing your hair color.

I hit the blogs in search of the hair color trends in store for 2009, and I’m happy to report back with fresh findings for reinventing your locks.

  • While chunky, contrasting streaks were featured heavily in 2008, the new hair color trends are quite a departure from that look. According to BecomeGorgeous.com, 2009 will feature dimensional looks that blend in with your hair’s natural hue, boosting your natural look, rather than appearing blatantly artificial.
  • David John, an LA-based stylist, spoke with the blog Beauty in Real Life about the color trends he’s seeing for winter on the West Coast. He’s dialing down the intensity on colors, adding lowlights to cooler shades and rich ambers to reds to give them depth. The focus in hair color this season is on enhancement rather than drastic changes.
  • Blondes will be featuring an “expensive” look this year, according to World Entertainment blog. Several different shades of blonde layered over one another, plus some strategic lowlights give blondes more sophisticated, tone-on-tone shading, which can be adjusted for all skin tones.
  • Regardless of what shades you gravitate toward, Haircuts & Hairstyles points out that the bottom line never changes: it’s always all about healthy shine. Coloring and bleaching your hair can cause a lot of damage, which makes the hair shaft brittle and a breeding ground for split-ends. If you need a boost of shine, try something with natural ingredients that won’t strip your already fragile, colored hair.

This year, don’t be afraid to step outside of your color comfort zone. There’s nothing like a fresh look to help you kick off a brand new year and stand steadfastly in line with all those resolutions you made.

  2. Sorry Danica! We’re not certain which hair color shade the model is wearing, but we can tell you that it’s really important to care for your color treated hair with a specially formulated shampoo like our Bilberry Color Protect Shampoo. It protects your color from fading, whatever shade it is!
