How To Get The Look: Eyebrow Tutorial

Eyebrow shaping can be one of those beauty techniques that seems so mysterious. Most people tend to be quite intimidated when it comes to wielding a pair of tweezers, but there’s really no need to stress. With a couple of helpful tricks and a very conservative approach to shaping, you can gradually choose the right eyebrow look for your face.

Step 1: Choose An Eyebrow Shape For Your Face

The shape of your face will be a strong determining factor in helping you to decide the shape of your brows. Take a look at the diagram below and choose your face shape. If you aren’t sure, stand in front of a mirror with a dry erase marker. With your hair pulled back, use the marker to trace the outline of your face. (You might need to close one eye to focus.) When you step away, you should have a better idea of the shape of your face.

Each face shape shows an eyebrow shape that flatters it, however, you can experiment with variations that work for your unique dimensions. These are just some helpful suggestions that can help you enhance your best facial features.

Step 2: Pluck Eyebrows Into Desired Shape

If your eyebrows are full enough to do so, you can begin the process of plucking them into your desired shape. If you’re a little overwhelmed by this task, it may be best to turn your initial shaping over to the experienced hands of a professional. After that, you can simply follow the lines they created with regular clean-ups of your own.

If you’re going to attempt this shaping on your own, it’s absolutely essential that you have a good pair of tweezers. Otherwise you risk irritating your skin and not getting the precise results that you want.

If you need some more guidance, this video from Howdini has a great step-by-step explanation on how to groom and shape your eyebrows. Just remember to be conservative in your plucking until you find your look.

Step 3: Fill in and Shape Brows

Your eyebrows may be on the thinner, sparser side, in which case you can easily use a Brow & Liner Kit to subtly fill in and thicken brows. Use a Slanted Brush for easily controlled precision in manipulating your proper shade of brow powder. And make sure you choose the right shade for your hair color; no one wants eyebrows that look drawn on!

As a guideline for how to use your brow powder, grab a pencil and check out the diagram below. Hold the pencil vertically next to your nostril. That is about where your eyebrow should begin.

Next, take the pencil from the tip of your nose diagonally across your pupil. The spot where it intersects with your eyebrow is where your arch should fall.

Finally, take the pencil from the corner of your nose to the outside corner of your eye. The edge of your brow should extend no farther than this point, in order to give your face a proportional look.

Remember to finish your brows with some clear Brow & Lash Gel in order to set your look for the day!
