How To Get The Look - Cheek Contouring

I often get asked questions about cheek products like blush and darker contour colors. People seem to be a bit confused about how and where to use blush. Blush and cheek colors are my absolute favorite makeup products, so I’m happy to be the blush ambassador with a quick tutorial on how to contour your cheeks!

  • First, apply your favorite foundation evenly across your face. Moisture Foundation SPF 15 is a great choice, because it creates a hydrated, smooth look. The best base for properly contoured cheeks is an even skin tone.
  • Choose 2 shades for your cheeks: a pink-toned blush for the apples of your cheeks, and a brown or bronze tone to use for contouring. Some cheek colors come ready-matched, like the Hot Brights Blush compact. The darker shade can be used to contour, the pink shade for blush. You can also opt to use a bronzer for your contour shade to get that healthy summer glow.
  • Using a Blusher Brush, take a bit of your darker shade onto the tip. Suck your cheeks in by making a “fishy” face, and then carefully sweep the shade into the hollow created. Make sure to sweep upward, toward your ear. This is your contour shade, and it will help create definition in your cheeks. See the diagram below for more detail.

  • Next, take the Blusher Brush and take a bit of the blush onto the tip. Be sure to gently tap off the excess to avoid blush fallout all over your cheeks. Then smile and sweep the blush in a circular motion over the rounded out area of your cheeks.
  • Take the Face & Body Brush and sweep it over top of both colors, blending them out and making sure there are no harsh edges.

You can also do either one of these steps individually to achieve a more subtle look. You can also experiment with using darker blushes as a contour shade for a more theatrical look, which would be fun for an evening out. Just don’t be afraid to get creative!
