The Benefits of Natural Skincare
“Natural skin care” has become something of a buzz phrase these days, with companies using it very loosely to describe all kinds of products. People like the idea of using natural ingredients on their skin; why wouldn’t you choose something from the Earth rather than a chemical? But there are other benefits to committing to taking care of your skin in the most unprocessed way possible.
- Supporting Community Trade- One of our favorite reasons for using natural ingredients is because it helps to support our global community trade efforts. We source our natural ingredients directly from marginalized communities around the globe, providing a fair price for what they produce. This helps them to support their families and communities, which creates a better planet for all of us.
- Protecting Our Environment – Another issue that we take seriously is protecting our planet and its natural resources. That’s why we choose renewable and sustainable raw ingredients, helping to protect crucial ecosystems like rainforests, and having more control over The Body Shop’s impact on our planet.
- Caring for Creatures – We are passionate about our commitment to not testing on animals, because we believe that all creatures that share our planet are deserving of care and respect. Natural ingredients have been used successfully for thousands of years, and don’t require being tested on animals before they’re packaged up. Pay close attention to the labeling of your products, though. Just because a product is natural, doesn’t mean they don’t test on animals, so make sure you only buy products from companies that proclaim their commitment to cruelty-free beauty.
- Avoiding Irritation – Another very real problem with chemical ingredients in skin care products is that they may irritate or cause an allergic reaction, which is usually something that has to be learned through trial and error. When the elements of your skin care regime come straight from the good green earth, you run a much lower risk of discovering an ugly rash making its way across the smooth terrain of your skin.
