Advice for Babies from a Baby

Greetings, fellow babies! It’s a new year (the first for many of us), and can I just say that boy, am I already tired. 2009 has been hectic already and it’s just getting started! Today, Mommy and I went to the grocery store and then to Grandma’s house. Can you believe that woman? What does she think, that my cheeks are made for pinching? Take it easy Gramma— I have delicate skin! Speaking of which, can you believe this dry cold? Someone please tell me it isn’t always like this. I mean, surely that bright ball in the sky is bound to come back some time soon, right? What does a baby have to do to stay warm around here? The place I just moved out of was always cozy, and I had none of this wind stuff to worry about, either.

Since it is a New Year, that also means it’s time for a new YOU! Personally, I’m looking forward to doing more looking at things, gurgling, and kicking my legs around that way that I do when Mommy tickles my belly. So, in order to help YOU be the best baby you can this year, I wanted to share a few tips to help stay safe, healthy, and happy for 2009.

  • Safe Sleep – Sleeping is one of my favorite activities, in fact, I spend about 50% or more of my day doing just that. If you are like me, you have your own crib in your Mommy and Daddy’s room. It’s totally nice of them to let me crash here until I get used to moving out of my old place. Even though I squirm around a lot, Mommy makes sure to always put me down to sleep on my back. On top of that, she doesn’t let me sleep with any sort of plush plaything that might obstruct my breathing, which is good, so you might want to recommend that to your own Mommy. For more safe sleep tips, check out this helpful article on KidsHealth.
  • Healthy Skin – Like I mentioned earlier, this winter weather is tough on my soft and fresh skin. It’s important for me to look and feel my best, as I have a lot of visitors (I’m quite popular amongst the family and neighbors), so I always want my skin to be its softest. We babies are prone to rashes, but just tell your Mommy not to worry if you break out. If your Mommy uses powder, make sure she avoids using talcum powder, as it can cause lung problems. WebMD has a great slideshow with some other helpful tips for maintaining your infant’s healthy skin. Also, I’d be remiss if I didn’t let you know all about a great new line of skin care products just for babies from right here at The Body Shop. The Buriti Baby Body Butter is a favorite of mine, of course, so be sure to get your own Mommy to order some soon.
  • Baby Massage – I don’t have to tell you that being a baby is stressful! So when I have a day off, I usually like to get a nice relaxing massage. If your Mommy is so inclined to help relieve your aching muscles, make sure she knows the right way to go about it. Here’s a great article from iVillage on some of the dos and don’ts of baby massage. For a step-by-step description, you can also check this article on MakeWayforBaby.com.

Well, my tiny fingers are tired from typing, so Mommy is going to rock me to sleep now. Until next time, leave a comment to let me know your thoughts of how to stay healthy, safe and having fun in ’09!
