5 Things You Didn’t Know About the Acai Berry
Behold the Acai Berry, one of nature’s greatest miracles in a teeny tart little package. Chances are likely that you’ve heard of it by now, but there are probably a few things you didn’t know about this amazing fruit. After doing some research, we’ve come up with these 5 things you didn’t know about the Acai (generally pronounced a-SIGH-ee) Berry.
Cancer Fighter – Don’t expect to rub some Acai juice on your melanoma and expect it to go away, but you can rest easy knowing that the Brazilian berry set off self-destruct mechanisms in leukemia cells when tested at University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Studies. Acai Berries have one the highest concentrations of antioxidants in fruit. Take THAT, free radicals!
Get Rid of Warts – Witches rejoice! The anti-inflammatory properties in the Acai Berry help to alleviate the skin of blemishes such as pimples and warts. The berry’s antibacterial qualities help in preventing infection, also.
Chock Full of Vitamins – There’s a lot of punch in these tiny purple bulbs and enough vitamins to make you think twice about that vitamin pack you’ve been taking. Acai boasts plenty of B3, or Niacin, as well as Vitamins C, D, and K.
Aids in Digestion and Weight Loss – Again, don’t expect any miracles out of Acai—it is after all still a berry. Nonetheless, Acai can help you maintain a healthy diet by acting as a great source of fiber. The high fiber content will help you digest better, and, um, “keep things moving.”
Overall Health – Despite the fact that research into the Acai berry has proven only certain specific benefits, the one thing we have learned is that it is full of healthy goodness. With so many vitamins, fiber, and antioxidants packed into this delicious fruit, how could you go wrong?
We’re excited about the possibilities of Acai here at The Body Shop. Expect to hear more about it in the coming months.
