A Note from our Partner, Earth Aid

Filed under: Corporate Ethics, The Body Shop, The Body Shop Values & Campaigns — Tags: — Cassie @ 2:30 pm

Earth Aid is thrilled to partner with The Body Shop, the original ethical beauty company.  The Body Shop continues its reputation of being a steward of good health and the environment, which is why we are so excited to work with them.  Earth Aid and The Body Shop’s shared values have brought us together, and together, we made The Body Shop the first company to reward all Americans for saving energy at home through our innovative Rewards Program.  This week, we’re excited to announce another step along that path: providing another new incentive for Americans to get started saving.

EarthAid.net is the first and only service that enables households to track all of their utility usage and savings in one place online. The platform allows consumers to compare their usage to that of their friends and neighbors, find easy ways to save and earn rewards for saving. Households simply visit www.earthaid.net/TheBodyShop to create a free account and earn points based on how much energy and water they save.

Since Earth Day 2010 (April 22, 2010), for consumers who earn 75 Earth Aid Rewards points, The Body Shop has offered $10 off any purchase of $50 or more online at www.thebodyshop-usa.com as Earth Aid’s premier National Rewards partner.  In addition, The Body Shop is challenging Americans to get creative in saving energy and getting their friends and neighbors engaged in saving - presenting prize packages worth $50 to each of the top five savers whose friends and families collectively save the most energy in two sequential three-month energy saving challenges hosted at Earth Aid.  The winners of the first such contest will be announced later this week.

Today, though, we’re excited to take this partnership one step further, and announce a new incentive:  all Americans who sign up for Earth Aid and start down the path of saving earn a free shipping coupon for all purchases of $30 or more at www.thebodyshop-usa.com.  So spread the word to anyone who hasn’t yet joined Earth Aid and encourage them to sign up today and start saving at www.earthaid.net/TheBodyShop.

While we have hundreds of local, regional, and now national partners, we’re particularly excited about joining with The Body Shop — our premier National Rewards Partner — to provide this added incentive this summer for people to start dialing down their energy use at home and, as a result, can start dialing up their purchases at The Body Shop.  The Body Shop is leading the way in promoting sustainability, serving as a model of corporate citizenship, and we’re excited to be working together.

NYC Stop Sex Trafficking Petition Events

Filed under: The Body Shop — Cassie @ 7:48 am

Thursday, August 5th through Saturday, August 7th, we’ll be stopping traffic in New York City in support of our Stop Sex Trafficking of Children & Young People campaign. Petitioners will carry picket signs with anti-trafficking messages while recruiting others to sign our petition encouraging the US government to change the laws that allow children to be arrested and prosecuted when they are victims of sex trafficking.

Also, be sure to keep an eye out for our projections around the city - we’ll be displaying the alarming statistics on child sex trafficking in lights on the sides of buildings.

So stop by to learn about our campaign and sign the petition. If you’re not in NYC, you can still sign our petition in-store or online at http://petition.thebodyshop-usa.com. Your signature can really make a difference!

The Body Shop Skin Care 101: Men’s Line

Filed under: Skin Care - Products — Olivia @ 1:34 pm

Women are primed and prepared for taking care of their skin from the time that we are just barely in our teens. Whether it’s our mothers or friends, or the magazines we read, they all make sure that we’re prepped and ready to begin managing our delicate facial skin.

This is not necessarily the case for men, who often neglect their facial skin despite the fact that they routinely ravage it with the rigors of shaving. The Body Shop’s men’s skin care line can come to the rescue, though, with a few easy steps to getting better protected, smoother man-skin!

  • Step 1: Cleanse – Cleansing is a great step to do before you shave, mainly because you want to wash off the remnants of dead skin from your night’s sleep before you begin shaving. Our gentle For Men Maca Root Face Wash will help to soften and cleanse without stripping your face and drying it out. The menthol will help skin to feel awake and refreshed. You can also start with the For Men Maca Root Face Scrub, which helps to exfoliate and soften whiskers to make them easier to shave off.
  • Step 2: Protect – Immediately after shaving is the perfect time to soothe and protect your skin from the dreaded razor burn. Gently pat on the For Men Maca Root Razor Relief to keep your skin calm before applying moisturizer.
  • Step 3: Moisturize – The environmental pitfalls of the day can really take a toll on skin, which is why moisturizing is so very important. Guys, if your skin runs slightly to the oily side of things, use our For Men Maca Root Oil Balance Protector, which moisturizes while also controlling oil and shine. Guys don’t like to be shiny either! To get reviving moisture and SPF protection, try the For Men Maca Root Face Protector, which has SPF 15 for daily defense.
  • Step 4: Revive – If eyes are tired or slightly puffy, the For Men Maca Root Eye Rescue Serum will brighten up even the most unsightly looking bags. The skin around your eyes is delicate, guys! Be gentle while patting it on.

How To Take A Great Profile Photo

Filed under: Beauty Tips — Olivia @ 12:09 pm

From Facebook to Flickr, today’s world is an endless photo opp. Whether it’s a little avatar beside your name on your chat client, or a hi-def photo online, there are a couple of tips and tricks from the pros that you can use to make sure you’re always showing yourself in the best light. And angle!

  • Perfect Your Stance – Standing with feet awkwardly apart or slightly twisted can produce some very strange photographic results, so find a comfortable stance that feels natural to you. You can also use your stance to accentuate your favorite features, like turning slightly backward to show off those lovely shoulders and back. Practice in the mirror at home so that you’ll be ready to go when your close up moment arrives!
  • Refine Your Shine – To avoid looking shiny like a flash bulb in your photos, take one simple step to control shine and look perfectly polished. Just keep a little compact of powder in your bag, and grab it before the shutter snaps. Dab on a little on your nose, forehead, and chin, the three areas where you tend to get the most shine. You’ll be matte and fabulous in no time!
  • Smile! – It sounds so simple, but trust me, it works. Everyone loves a happy face in a photo, so give it your best. Even if you look a little goofy, it’ll be a sweet shot that will make you giggle. For extra tips and tricks, get some professional help!
  • Work Your Angles – Try tilting your chin down slightly, which typically makes for a better photo. And try not to let the photographer take the photo from under you, which is an unflattering angle for everyone.

Our Newest Home Fragrance Scents!

Filed under: Skin Care - Products, The Body Shop — Olivia @ 12:15 pm

Over the years, you may have enjoyed some of our Home Fragrance Oils and the scents that tend to shift and change to reflect the current season. Scents are such an integral part of creating a comfortable environment – they can relax or revive you, depending on the scent!

That’s why I’m so excited to introduce a bevy of new scents to go along with some of our old favorites. Even more exciting is that these new scents come in several different forms to fit your lifestyle: candles, room spray, fragrance oil, and reed diffusers.

There are several new scents for you to sample: Mandarin & Tangelo, Pomegranate & Raspberry, Vanilla & Lime Blossom, Sandalwood & Ginger, Aloe & Soft Linen, Fire Lily & Amber, and Green Tea & Lemon. I’ve sampled them all, and they’re light enough to use in every part of your house, and even on your linens, but substantial enough to last throughout the day. Right now I’ve got the Aloe & Soft Linen Body, Room & Linen Spritz on my bedside table, which is the perfect light, clean scent for summer. A few blasts in the air and on my sheets and I’m good to go!

The newest home fragrances also include several of our proud Community Trade ingredients, including organically-grown soya oil from Brazil in the home fragrance oils and reed diffusers, and honey in the Body, Room & Linen Spritzes!

Tried any yet? What do you think?

Regional Style Secrets

Filed under: Fashion Trends — Olivia @ 9:13 am

The United States is one great big country, so it’s no surprise that across this great land, different styles, techniques, and tricks abound. And despite the fact that some of these cute trends are regional, they’ll work across state lines, we promise!

Read on below for an inside scoop on a few sweet regional secrets to keep you looking and feeling flirty and feminine this summer season!

  • California Girls have been immortalized in many a song for their lovely, tanned skin. It’s long been their trademark, and over the years, many other parts of the country have been seen striving for that golden skin. The good news is that you no longer have to bake your sensitive skin in the sun to get that sun-kissed look! Try our Vitamin E Everyday Summer Face Lotion to bring gradual, sunless color to your delicate facial skin.
  • Hawaiian Women are known for wearing gorgeous flowers in their hair, specifically the exotic Hibiscus flower. Not only are these flora absolutely stunning, but local custom is that a woman who is single and looking wears her flower on the right side of her head, and a happily coupled woman wears hers on her left side, the side closest to her smitten heart!
  • Southern Belles are known for keeping fashionable even in the absolute hottest and most humid of climates. Their secret: sundresses. Sundresses somehow have the ability to be both appropriate for swanky dinners out, or dressed down for a college football game, and the most key ingredient to a successful sundress is color. The more vibrant, the better! This is why Southern belles walk around looking like a bouquet of flowers and attracting plenty of admiring glances.
