5 Winter Fashion and Makeup Trends
This winter’s top trends are all about looking hot, even in the freezing cold. As a matter of fact, winter style trends for 2008-2009 are just as eye-catching and brilliant as anything that the hotter months produce, so feast your eyes on this style spectrum.
Trend #1: Berry Does it Best!
Berry-stained pouts were seen on the Fall/Winter runways of Carolina Herrera and Donna Karen. While a berry lip isn’t as dramatic (or as intimidating) as the classic red lip, it’s an easy way to look polished and put together, even if the rest of your make-up is minimal. Pair a pale gray or taupe eye shadow with a great berry gloss for a chic day look, then pile on the black mascara and a little black liner for some glamour at night!
Trend #2: Accentuate the Hourglass!
Gone are the days of August and the baby-doll tanks and blousy tube tops that we wore to outdoor concerts, barbecues, and the grocery store. This winter is about accentuating soft, feminine curves — think cinched waists and 40’s silhouettes. Goodbye, drapey and shapeless and Hello, tailored and fabulous!
Trend #3: Don’t Be Afraid of Color!
Every woman has stood at a make-up counter and thought to herself that she could never get away with bright blue eye shadow or peacock green eyeliner - but we think that’s nonsense! Make-up is about having fun and bringing out the best of what you’ve got! So try a bright purple eyeliner - it might look scary when you take the cap off, but smudged on the lower lash line, it makes brown eyes POP! Update a smoky eye by substituting purple eye shadow for the traditional gray. Try applying a gorgeous teal eye shadow, but keep it fresh by skipping the eyeliner and leaving your lips and cheeks neutral.
Trend #4: Give Skinny Pants a Chance!
Skinny jeans are nothing new - we are still seeing them everywhere. However, the trendier and sexier cousin to the skinny jean, the skinny pant, is popping up on runways, in fashion magazines, and of course, in shopping malls. The most notable skinny pant of the moment is the black “leather” version seen here.
Trend #5: Lash Out!
Falling snow is pretty, but it looks even prettier when it’s getting caught in long, lush lashes! Mascara will make even a bare face look polished, so don’t use it sparingly! After curling your lashes, work the mascara wand through your lashes by starting at the base and wiggling the brush up to the tip. Go for as many coats as you want, just work fast! Ladies with already long lashes should go for volume and separation, while women with lashes on the shorter side should look for a lengthening formula.
The best part about the 2008 winter fashion trends is that you can dial up or down the intensity, depending on your personality and the occasion for which you’re dressing. The important thing to remember is that you have to feel good to look good!
